Hatters fall to promotion-chasing Posh
Stockport lost 1-0 at Peterborough on Saturday.
Second-placed Peterborough dominated the first half but had only a 25th minute Craig Mackail-Smith strike to show for it.
The former Dagenham striker pocketed his 25th goal of the season.
Stockport almost grabbed a second-half equaliser when Leon McSweeney's free-kick was only parried by keeper Joe Lewis and Oli Johnson's follow-up effort hit the woodwork.
The win means Posh, if they win thier final two games will secure back-to-back promotions.
Stockport assistant boss Peter Ward said, "We got over-run in the first half but our second-half performance deserved something and we are disappointed not to get it, especially after what happened at the end," he said.
"We changed things tactically and got ourselves back into the game."
