Tottenham Hotspur reveal Begovic frustration
Harry Redknapp admits he was left frustrated by Asmir Begovic’s decision to sign for Stoke City Football Club on transfer deadline day.
The Tottenham Hotspur manager tried to take the goalkeeper from Portsmouth during the winter, but the 22-year-old opted to head to the Britannia Stadium in a £3.25million deal instead.
“We thought we had Asmir Begovic. He came here with his agent, had a medical on Friday but in the end decided to go to Stoke,” Redknapp told the official club website. “That is how it goes sometimes.
“We did not get too close to doing anything else in that position besides that. I was looking for a bit of cover for Heurelho Gomes, but we do already have Ben Alnwick, as well as Jimmy Walker.”
Gomes’s usual competition for the number one jersey is Italian ace Carlo Cudicini, formerly of Chelsea, but a motorcycle accident last year has ended his season.
