Sunderland are leading the chase to sign Matt Phillips.

After making good progress since succeeding Steve Bruce last season, Martin O’Neill is determined to push on further in the coming campaign.

The Black Cats manager has cash to spend during the summer window, and it is believed he has made Phillips one of his top targets.

The 21-year-old winger is currently plying his trade in the Championship with Blackpool, but a fee of around £3million could be enough to clinch a deal.
