Tottenham Hotspur Football Club’s bid for a top-four Premier League finish has been dealt a blow by news Jermain Defoe faces a month on the sidelines.

The England international has been in fine form this season, with 23 goals in all competitions making him a certainty for Fabio Capello’s World Cup squad.

Defoe is also set for a key role in Spurs bid for UEFA Champions League football and FA Cup glory, but a hamstring injury is set to result in him being forced out of action.

"It's a grade-two tear but it will be a few weeks,” said boss Harry Redknapp. "We've had a bad spell of injuries but we've got Peter Crouch, Roman Pavlyuchenko and Eidur Gudjohnsen in attack.”
