An 84th minute penalty enabled Walsall to gain a point from their Tuesday night trip to Carlisle.
Michael Ricketts put the chance away after Sofiene Zaaboub had been fouled. Carlisle had taken the lead in the 19th minute through skipper Paul Thirlwell.
Walsall manager Chris Hutchings said, "We were fortunate to get the penalty. I don't know whether he clipped him or there was a bit of a dive there.
"After the subs came on we looked more lively and a goal threat. It's nice to be able to bring on the likes of Sam Williams and Michael Ricketts who were fresher and changed us a bit.
"We're trying to find a bit of consistency to climb into the top half of the table. In the past we have conceded late goals so it's nice to have the boot on the other foot and come back strongly. It shows a bit of character in the side."
