Wigan Athletic Football Club have signed Marcelo Moreno.

The 22-year-old striker, a Bolivian international, joined Shakhtar Donetsk in the summer of 2008, but he has struggled in the Ukraine and will see the season out at the DW Stadium.

"We knew we needed more competition in the forward area and now we have Victor Moses and Marcelo Moreno " coach Roberto Martinez told the club's official website.

"Shakhtar paid €9million for him 18 months ago, which shows you how highly he is regarded, and he has all the ingredients to become a big player in this country.

"He still needs to find his feet in Europe, but we are confident that this will be at Wigan. He is young, a superb athlete, good in the air, technically good with both feet and he will add something new.”
