Erik Edman has left Wigan Athletic Football Club.

The 31-year-old was due to become a free agent in the summer, when his contract at the DW Stadium was set to expire.

Roberto Martinez has allowed him to leave the club ahead of the end of the season, and he has now returned to his native Sweden with Helsingborgs.

"It feels fantastic to come home and hopefully I add my experience from the top level." Edman told the club's official website.
