Charles N’Zogbia is open to appearing for England at the World Cup Finals.
Although the Wigan Athletic player has appeared for the France Under-21 national side, he is eligible to play for England having been in the country since an 18-year-old in 2004.
And with the left-back role causing Fabio Capello problems ahead of the World Cup, Latics boss Roberto Martinez has given the Italian a nudge in N’Zogbia’s direction.
"I asked Charles the other day about England and he said he was hoping. I think he is definitely open to playing for England," said Martinez. "I thought he wanted to play for France.
“But he's been living in England so long now he's ready to represent whichever country asks him. He's only 23 and hasn't peaked yet - he's certainly got the potential to get into the England squad.
"Charles is a left-footed player playing on the right side and is a great option for any squad. He relies on his streetwise ability. He's very tactically aware.
“Leighton Baines is proving that you don't need size to play left-back, but I think Charlie has a lot more to offer in the last third than in the defensive third."
