Roberto Martinez wasn’t surprised to see his side beat Liverpool Football Club on Monday.

Wigan Athletic eased their relegation worries with a 1-0 win against last season’s Premier League runners-up, but whilst many were surprised at the result, Martinez certainly wasn’t.

“Throughout the season we've shown flashes of what we're capable of doing," the Latics boss told Sky Sports. "I think what's been letting us down is that lack of consistency.

“But the performance on Monday had absolutely everything. It wasn't a hopeful result. It wasn't a hopeful performance. We were worthy winners.

“It shows you what we're capable of and the potential we've got. In a transitional season like we're in it's important that we find the means to be consistent."
