Liverpool Football Club didn’t make an approach for Kevin Doyle on deadline day.

It was reported that during his frantic search for a new striker last week, Roy Hodgson turned his attention to the Republic of Ireland international.

However, the Express and Star claim Wolverhampton Wanderers have denied receiving an approach from the Reds for the former Reading frontman.

Furthermore, sources in Merseyside claim Doyle wasn’t considered by Hodgson, who did, though, ask Bayern Munich for Mario Gomez.

The Anfield club are expected to renew their interest in the German international in the New Year, although they are also said to have a number of alternative targets.

Bobby Zamora, of Fulham, has been linked, as has Carlton Cole of West Ham United, and Karim Benzema, the Real Madrid forward, is also on the shortlist according to Tuttosport.
