Wycombe in crucial Shots win
11:30 AM 20 April, 2009
Wycombe's 3-0 home win over Aldershot on Saturday leaves them firmly in the league Two automatic promotion place.

Wycombe lie third, level on points with Bury in fourth.

Dean Howell headed a John Paul-Pittman cross against his own post and John Akinde slotted home the resulting rebound.

Wycombe extended their lead after half-time when Pittman's shot was blocked, only for the ball to deflect in off defender Ricky Newman.

Matt Phillips sealed the win after 67 minutes, scoring after another Pittman assist.

Chairboy boss Peter Taylor said, "Jon-Paul has taken a little bit of time to believe in himself but he is improving all the time."

"I thought he was immense - his work for the goals was tremendous and I'm not sure why his own effort was disallowed.

"There are a lot of players like Jon-Paul in non-league who can make the step up - they just have to believe in themselves.

"It was a game for the individuals and with Jon-Paul stepping up, I always thought we had goals in us. If anything, I thought we could have scored a few more."

Pittman told the club's official website, "I really enjoyed it today. It was a great game to be involved in. I thought we were on point, we attacked well and we defended well and I was just happy with my time on the field.

"Granted it was a bit of relief to get the win but we've kept ourselves in a good position, we're in the race and I felt that we really deserved it today."
