Visiting Fir Park?

Fir Park - not quite the venue of legends but it is a very popular stadium among the 'Well fans. It has been our home since the late 1800's and is loved in a way that away fans will never understand. To visitors, one stand dwarfs the rest, one is uncompleted, one is built on terracing and the home end must be about the smallest in the league. But that is the very reason that it is so special with Motherwell supporters. It is unique. No other stadium in the world is like it. Parkhead and Ibrox are very impressive but there are countless others grounds like them. It is not an identikit lego ground like Airdrie, Clyde and Livingston. If you woke up in the middle of Fir Park, even the most drunken of revellers would know where they were.
The ground has all the modern facilities required by the SPL but it can also transport you back to a bygone age. The Main Stand enclosures have been made redundant by the Taylor report and that Stand remains beautifully incomplete - the iron girders continue but the seats do not - the result of an objecting resident in Fir Park St. when the stand was extended in the 60's. The more vociferous 'Well fans still dwell on the East Terracing. The introduction of seating to this area has reduced the capacity but the natives will still give opposition players and fans an uncomfortable 90 minutes. The Davie Cooper Stand holds just over 2000 home fans and most of the noise generates from here. Away fans are given the massive but under-used South Stand although only Rangers and Celtic come close to filling it.
Home fans can pay anything from £11 - £16 for regular games and a couple of quid more will get you a look at the old firm. There are generous concessions for kids, juveniles, students OAP's and a parent-child gate is available in the Cooper stand.
Away fans should enter the South Stand via Dalziel Drive and can expect to pay a reasonable £16 for normal games. Tickets are unheard of unless you support one of the Old Firm.
Programmes are £1.50 and to be honest, not exceptional. However, the editor is planning a lot of changes for the better.
Standard food is available and the prices are much the same as everywhere else.
Motherwell train station is on the main London line and Airbles is on the Hamilton circle 15 minutes from the ground. Loads of buses run into the Motherwell - the Civic Centre is a good place to aim for.
Pubs are not in short supply. Home fans should head for Jack Daniels or the Electric Bar. Away fans are welcome everywhere but should probably go for the JD function suite or Tully's.
Fir Park stuff:
Capacity - 13,742
Away fans - Up to about 6,000.
