Stockport's Northern Ireland striker Peter Thompson has returned to former club Linfield on loan until the end of the season.
The forward joined County in the summer of 2008 and has scored three goals this term.
The Hatters are working to bring in a replacement and insist no plans have yet been put in place for the loan deal to become permanent.
A club statement said: "No decision has been made on Peter's long-term future as the striker is still contracted to the Hatters until the summer of 2011."
