Inter Milan transfer target Javier Mascherano is in talks with Barcelona after Liverpool agreed a transfer fee with the Spanish titans. A statement on the club's official website read: "Liverpool Football Club have agreed terms for the transfer of Javier Mascherano to FC Barcelona. "The Spanish club have now been given permission to speak to the Argentina midfielder." It is understood that the deal is worth a total of £22m: an initial £16m and a further £6m depending on certain stipulations being met. A statement on the Barcelona's official website read: "FC Barcelona and Liverpool FC have reached an agreement in principle for the transfer of Javier Mascherano to the club for the next four seasons. "The deal was closed after intensive efforts made by the club in the final hours and through the player himself in the negotiations. "Barcelona will report the details of the operation once the player passes the medical and the transfer is concluded. "It is hoped Javier Mascherano will arrive in Barcelona this weekend." 30-8-10: Javier Mascherano's £18m move from Liverpool to Barcelona has now been completed and he has signed a four-year contract after passing his medical. "It was an exhaustive medical that lasted around five hours. He is in excellent condition and is physically great," club doctor Ricard Pruna told Barca TV. "His cardiovascular level is perfect and he is a player who has had very few injuries. In the last five years he has suffered one injury that has left him with problems."
