Was Nolan wrong to leave Bolton Wanderers?
11:00 AM 23 April, 2009
Kevin Nolan could be playing Championship football next season after leaving Bolton Wanderers.

The former Reebok Stadium skipper ended his long association with the Lancashire club when he left them in the New Year, in a transfer which cost Newcastle United £4million.

However, as Gary Megson’s side look set to retain their Premier League status, the Magpies are involved in a desperate scrap to avoid relegation to the Championship.

Nolan will continue to insist he made the right decision to head to United, who are perceived as the bigger of the two clubs, but if they suffer the drop, will his decision be considered an incorrect one?

Having watched Nolan progress at Bolton 99% of fans will also tell you how much he has then declined in the last 2 to 3 years. I thought his transfer was a great bit of business for Bolton but hoped Nolan would actually refind his form. So far from what I've read from Newcastle fans he hasn't and I fear his ability to perform in the Premier League may well be over whether Newcastle stay up or not. At present he is livng very much on past glories

Moving to a "Big" club may at first blush seem like a good idea but if that team goes down (e.g. Leeds Utd.) a lot of the players will end up staying down there. As in the "03-"04 Leeds example; a few players made their way back into the top division (Viduka, Smith, Lennon, Pennant, & Robinson) but others like Seth Johnson, Michael Duberry, Eirik Bakke & Lucas Radebe were still there and that was that. If the Toon are financially sound, which from what I've heard, they're not. Nolan and Newcastle could suffer a similar fate if relegated.
