Sunderland decide to keep Davenport
11:00 AM 27 April, 2009
Sunderland Football Club want to keep Calum Davenport next season.

The defender has impressed Black Cats manager Ricky Sbragia during a loan spell from West Ham United, and he hopes to seal a permanent deal for the player in the summer.

"Calum’s been brilliant. He’s been patient and he has put pressure on the other centre-backs to stay on their toes and now he’s got his chance he has seized it with both hands," Sbragia told The Sunday Sun.

"His height is a big asset – when you look at teams these days, most of the players are all 6ft-odd.

"So to have someone at the back who is 6ft 3in is great for us."
