Arsenal & Spurs clamour to beat Man City to best Bosman signing?
10:44 AM 01 May, 2009
Real Madrid centre back Fabio Cannavaro could be on the way to the Premier League on a Bosman at the end of the season.

Reports from Spain suggest Arsenal and Spurs will make overtures to the 35-year-old World Cup winner, but the favourites for his services remain Juventus.

Cannavaro claims he has already turned down offers from Manchester City and Bayern Munich.

"There will be the World Cup next year and I want to stay relaxed," Cannavaro told Gazzetta dello Sport.

"Real Madrid told me I would have to wait until after the presidential election [to find out about a new contract] and advised me to look around. But I have asked my agent to see if he can find a solution.

"I didn't want to have to start from scratch with the World Cup around the corner and that's why I have turned down Manchester City and Bayern."

Meanwhile, Cannavaro's agent Gaetano Fedele has shed more light on his client's future.

Fedele told Radio Kiss Kiss: "We are waiting for the Bianconeri [Juventus] to send Real Madrid a fax.

"You'll all need to wait around five days before we define his contract and solve other problems that have cropped up in the last few days.

"The proposal made by Juventus is the most fascinating for many reasons. For now, Fabio will think about finishing the season with Real in the best way possible.

"Napoli never made an offer. There was never any interest. Fabio would have been willing to make enormous economic sacrifices to once again wear the Azzurri jersey.

"Would he have accepted a contract of just a £1m a year? Let's just say, for Napoli, Fabio would have made extraordinary sacrifices."

Arsenal's policy of only offering one-year contracts to players over 30 means they're unlikely to get Cannavaro, but Spurs may be in with a chance.

not a chance in hell of happening, 1. he doesn't have the speed to be of any great use to either north london clubs, 2. with no real prem experance would find it very difficault to fit in, unless at a smaller club, similer to what fulham and bolton did when they came to the prem. 3. not really sure bout arsenal, but at spurs woody and king would always be prefered when fit, and daws is suitable cover and well respected within the club, plus theres always corluka, based on this imo he won't be turning out for any prem side while still being linked to Italian clubs
