Arsenal are ready to hijack Stoke's attempts to sign Steve Gohouri from Borussia Mönchengladbach, according to reports from Germany.

The 28-year-old Ivory Coast international defender has also been linked with Newcastle, Glasgow Rangers and Wigan.

The tall defender only cost the German club €1.5m when he joined them from BSC Young Boys in 2006 and only has a year left on his contract so will not be an expensive purchase.
