Reading's final-day loss to Birmingham City means the Royals will have to settle for a place in the play-offs.

Reading needed a win and hope that Sheffield United didn't win against Crystal Palace. The Blades drew 0-0 but Reading couldn't capitalise and lost 2-1.

Birmingham were 2-0 up on the hour mark thanks to goals from Keith Fahy and Kevin Phillips and despite an immediate reply from Marek Matejovsky the Blues held on for the win that seals their place in the second automatic promotion spot.
