Didier Digard admits he didn’t expect to be in a relegation fight with Middlesbrough this season.

The Frenchman arrived from Paris St Germain in the summer, and he admits he is surprised to see Boro three points adrift of safety with the same number of games remaining.

"I am very surprised because at the start of the season, we felt we had a good staff and some good players, so it is hard," said Digard. "But when you lose games on the trot, in your head it is hard.

"After that, confidence is not there and it is hard. But I am not afraid in this situation because I know we have good enough players to stay in the Premier League."
