Since losing Kevin Nolan to Newcastle United in the New Year, in a shock £4million transfer, the Whites manager has been considering midfield replacements.

And reports suggest Megson has targeted a summer move for O’Neil, who looks certain to leave Middlesbrough if they lose their Premier League status.

However, the Reebok Stadium club are likely to face competition for the £4million-rated player from his former club Portsmouth, who tried to sign him in January.
