Olsson: Liverpool skipper took a dive
07:24 PM 18 May, 2009
West Bromwich Albion Football Club’s Jonas Olsson has accused Steven Gerrard of diving on Sunday.

The Swedish defender was seen hitting out at the Liverpool skipper during the Reds’ 2- 0 win at the Hawthorns, and the 26-year-old has revealed he felt the England ace took a dive.

"I screamed at him, 'You're too good to dive like that'," Olsson told Aftonbladet. "He said that he didn't dive and that it was a penalty.

"There is always banter going on during the game, especially in the heat of the moment. But I have the utmost respect for Gerrard. He is one of the best players in the world.

"It is one-on-one at the end. During the last half hour, I faced Gerrard, Fernando Torres and Dirk Kuyt, that means there will be chances, it is a tough situation."

Gerard is such a strong player but fell like a whimp. Great players don't fall like that as he has shown many times. But what makes me puzzle the most is when he in the pub drinking he sure know how to be a man.

It was clear push as Stevie is running in straight line and olsson came across from right to left to barge him out the way - definate penalty but as we have seen many times not always given as referess are so inconsistent. Cyril Randle is either blind or a man utd fan!

If that how Ollson play & defends, i'm not suppriesd WBA lies at the bottom of the table. They should get rid of him if they are to survive in the championship.

Olsson can crack open a nice can of Coke and rejoice, safe in the knowledge that this sort of defending may receive marginally more acceptance in the Coca Cola Championship, where a player of his inability rightfully belongs. He's out of his depth beyond that.

It was clearly a barge and we've often seen them given. Olsen should have thought himself lucky and got on with the game.Instead he tried to divert attention from his reckless and frankly stupid challenge by claiming Gerrad dived. Pathetic, as was most of his defending. Even worse was the response of the West Brom crowd who then - football genius's that they are - proceeded to boo Gerrards every touch. I'm sure he was mortified not to get the respect of a team that's been relegated from the Premiership more times than anyone except Crystal Palace. At that point I lost any respect for the crowd and I have little sympathy for West Broms plight. Pity, cos the rest of the team tried to play football.

Both of the Sky commentators and all three of the studio guests at half time agreed that it was a barge in the back. There was clear, heavy, deliberate contact with the man and not the ball. The defender should be embarassed at his poor judgement. As Gerard was in front of Olsson it could not have been shoulder to shoulder. Now you are relegated watch it again with a clear head and make an honest judgement.

Having watched the incident on a DVD recorder, it was shoulder to shoulder and a perfectly legal charge as such. Gerrard probably didn't expect to be treated with such disdain, so he was annoyed, but WRONG !

With respect -that is an apology for an argument!!! There was a great deal for Reds fans to respect from that game:- 1.The way WBA came out of the traps and took the game to Liverpool 2.The amazing support given to the team even in defeat -awesome

Are you Drogba in disguise may have been an appropriate chant aimed at Gerrard. His first "slip" was after a couple of minutes on the edge of the box but after clutching his ankle for a minute or so, he realised he was fooling no-one, got up and sprinted back to the centre circle. Maybe his big head has made him a bit top heavy? Either way, as Olsson says, he's too good for these shenanigans...... The Lords my Shepherd.

What the f*** is Olsson on about. He knocked Steven Gerrard flying with a pathetic bit of defending. He was fortunate not to have picked up another booking.
