Clinching Premier League survival with Newcastle United Football Club would be the high point of Alan Shearer’s career.

Shearer won the Premier League with Blackburn Rovers and has countless caps for England, but he would swap them all for a win against Aston Villa if it guaranteed top-flight survival.

"Definitely, 100 per cent. Definitely," he said.

"It would be everything. It would be bigger than anything. Bigger than winning the title, bigger than captaining England, which was the biggest thing in my playing career.

"I remember everything about winning the title with Blackburn at Anfield. But avoiding relegation on Sunday (against Aston Villa) would top that. It would be because of the season we have had.

"It has only gone on for me for eight weeks, but it has been an incredible eight weeks."
