David Wheater expects Stewart Downing and Tuncay Sanli to leave Middlesbrough this summer.

Following Boro’s relegation from the Premier League, the defender expects Gareth Southgate’s star dup to leave the Riverside Stadium during the summer transfer window.

"I think Stewart Downing is too good for the Championship," Wheater said.

"Tuncay as well, he's too good for the Championship. But it is down to them. I'd like to think that I'm too good for the Championship but that's obviously where I'm heading at the moment."

Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur have been heavily linked with Downing in the past, whilst Tuncay has been linked with a shock move to Chelsea.
