Paul Scharner is being tipped to sign for Aston Villa Football Club this summer.

The Austrian international is keen to quit Wigan Athletic during the transfer window, as he seeks to join a club who can offer him European football next season.

This is something Martin O’Neill can offer him at Villa Park, and with just a year left on Scharner’s contract, the Ulsterman will be hoping to land the defender for around £3million.

"He only has a year left and I am not trying to pull the wool over anyone's eyes,” Latics boss Steve Bruce said. "He is one of our better players. I don't want to lose him but we will have to be realistic."
