Steven Taylor has urged Newcastle United Football Club to appoint Alan Shearer.

Although the caretaker manager was unable to prevent the Magpies slipping into the Championship during his eight-game reign, Taylor has nothing but praise for the former England international.

"The club means so much to him. The fans love him, and he was hurt like we were about relegation,” he said. "He has been unbelievable. The only one person who I think can take us back up is Alan.

“He has been fantastic to work with. Let's hope we get the chance to work with him again. We need stability so we can move on as a football club and look to the future."
