Middlesbrough boss delighted with Wheater attitude
Gareth Southgate is delighted with the attitude of Middlesbrough defender David Wheater.
The highly-rated 22-year-old has been linked with a move away from the Riverside Stadium following Boro’s relegation, with Birmingham City admitting an interest.
However, Wheater has vowed to remain with the Teesside club and help them back into the Premier League, and this has been commended by Southgate.
"I'm absolutely delighted that David has publicly stated his commitment to the club for next season," he said. “It is a great message for the rest of the squad. David is a local lad and proud of it.
“Middlesbrough is his club and relegation hurt him as much as it hurt anyone. It's good to know he's ready and willing to drop down to the Championship and help us bounce back."
