03:00 PM 03 June, 2009
Huddersfield are biding thier time in their pursuit of Southend United defender Peter Clarke.

Clarke is out of contract at Roots Hall this summer and Huddersfield have reportedly joined Charlton in the race to sign the 27-year-old former Blackpool centre-half.

Town chief executive Nigel Clibbens said: "We are not going to join in the speculation over players until we can officially say where we are.

"Peter Clarke is a free agent at the end of the month and he has been linked with our club and Charlton Athletic, but until he has discussed his situation with Southend then we have to wait."

Clarke began his career with Everton, making nine appearances and making loan moves to Blackpool, Port Vale and Coventry City.

Clarke moved to Blackpool permanently in 2004 where he made 95 appearances before moving to Southend in 2006.

Clarke has won eight caps at England U-21 international level.
