Jensen salutes Burnley’s cup heroes
01:09 PM 14 June, 2009
Brian Jensen believes Burnley Football Club’s cup heroics played a part in their promotion.

The Clarets beat the likes of Chelsea and Arsenal before losing out to Tottenham Hotspur in the semi-final of the Carling Cup, whilst the Gunners beat them in the last 16 of the FA Cup.

Goalkeeper Jensen believes competing and beating Premier League sides ultimately gave them a platform to win promotion to the top-flight, which they did via the play-offs.

“When we started the season, we thought about it and our goal was minimum to get in the play-offs," he told the Lancashire Telegraph. “But we didn't have the best of starts.

"Of course the Carling Cup and the FA Cup gave us a little bit of a confidence boost. I think with the lads we've got here we had a good chance and it proved to be right.”
