Downing set for Manchester United in sensational swap deal?
10:00 AM 16 June, 2009
Stewart Downing has been linked with a sensational move to Manchester United Football Club, which could involve Gary Neville AND Paul Scholes moving the other way.

In what is perhaps the most hard to believe piece of speculation so far this summer, the Sunday Mirror claims Middlesbrough are trying to engineer this amazing swap deal.

It is claimed the Teesside club want the Old Trafford veteran to help then climb out of the Championship, and they are willing to offer £15million-rated Downing in part-exchange.

However, Neville has recently stated his intends to remain at United next season, whilst Scholes is also likely to remain a one-club man for the rest of his career.

hang on right it wuld be completely different if downing played for a top team, but cos he plays for the boro you all can't stand him. the thing is that he is the best natural english left wingers, he wouldn't even dare go to someone like man utd although they are good they cant give him the first team football a player of downings quality desearves. he would do better staying at the boro

I really dont understand why so many clubs are linked with downing. he's the most over rated player in the country, most boro fans will tell you we'd be lucky to get £5million for him. He must be the only winger in the country who is afraid to run at a full back!!!

This must be a joke I have never fathomed out how Downing has played for England, he's simply not good enough.

Scholes and Neville have had it, if this deal goes through, there will only be one winner and that's United.

This has to be a wind up surely? I think maybe his agent is trying to spice up a bettermove for him. If he signs for United then so will I Mr Ferguson.

matt downing is rubbish and gary, rio, vidic and paul are all better than this over-rated no body, hell utd academy are better than this loser. you want it to be even, than he has to go to another club as he is not good enough for the greatest club in football, manchester united.

I'm suprised we're only swapping Neville and Scholes. I would of thought Vidic and Rio as well would make it more even.
