Gunners to seal €3.5m bargain deal for commanding centre back?
01:55 PM 16 June, 2009
Hamburg's Jérôme Boateng is being linked with a move to Arsenal, who are ready to pay €3.5m to land the 20-year-old centre back.

Jérôme has not been put off the idea of a move to the Premier League by his brother, Kevin-Prince Boateng, who has endured a torrid time in the capital with Spurs.

At nearly 6ft 4inches, Jérôme Boateng could add some much needed height to Arsenal's defence, so could be a valuable acquisition.

guys, the story is about a new defender called Jerome Boateng and not about senderos or djorou or anyone else. so calm down and try to look at the prospective of this young german defender. I think he has done well at the under 21 in sweden. No cards against him and you hardly see any unfair tacklings. Manu scouting are are rating him betwenn 3-5 million euros.

Weren't Djourou and Senderos in the swiss backline that didn't concede a goal in the 2006 world cup. Both not out of their teens. Pretty remarkable achievment something, ferdinand and terry will never achieve

Senderos is back at arsenal, after milan opted against buying him from us. Unless some clubs come in for senderos, he will be with us next season. Actually, i see senderos as a quality player. In the season which we went to the champions league final before losing to barca, senderos was playing. He along kolo toure was the rock of our defense. They kept 10 clean sheets on route to the final. We played against, villareal, juventus and real madrid. That was no fluke. Senderos is a quality defender if you ask me. He is tall and has the physical presence. His ability to deal with high balls is second to none. I remember watching him dealing with each and every high ball the opponents pump into our 6 yard box. He may not have the speed, therefore we need people like toure and gallas to compliment him. Some our that can deal wit the danger when the ball is on the ground. Senderos can definite deal with aerial attacks during set pieces and corner kicks. His only downfall is his nemesis, didier drogba. Only when senderos play against didier drogba, he loses his focus. I believe if wenger had kept faith with senderos, and let him play in the champions league final instead of sol campbell, we would have won the champions league back then. It is unwise to remove senderos when he is on form just for someone with experience and just gotten back from injuries. Therefore, If senderos is not gonna be sold away, then I foresee wenger not buying anyone else other than vermaelen. With Vermaelen, Senderos, Djourou, Toure/Gallas, we have a good defense. Vermalen and Kolo/Gallas will be the quick defender and Senderos and Djourou the tall defenders. I believe that either kolo or gallas is going to leave arsenal this season. However if senderos is sold, along with either kolo or gallas, then another defender coming in is a great possibility. Do not forget our priority is still in defensive midfield. I believe we need another powerhouse there. Song alone is not enough. Song

To Damn_Gallas...Mate, I agree for that period Senderos waa brilliant! He really was! But, unfortunately that was his only consistent run of good form in an Arsenal shirt. Do you remember what Torres did to him in the Champs League in '08? He made him look stupid! Arsene showed blind faith in Senderos at time when he was making loads of bad mistakes and, as much as I would have love him to be great, he is not! Far too inconsistent and gets turned far too easily....like he is moving in slow motion! I could not think of anything worse than having him back in our squad...I would rather give him away...preferably to Spurs! Djourou is the man! Amazing potential there! To all who say he is crap, you know nothing about football!

It astounds me how people can claim to have seen djourou and conclude that he is crap. Hes got world class potential in the same vain as wilshere and vela Also we very nearly won the league season last season (07/08) and we had exactly the same defence as now. Our downfall then was injuries and not quite having the squad to cover it, not the fact our defenders wer too small - although i will say height does help at the back

it's not all about height is about what you've got institively.i think we should focou more on quality than wasting our time on physical apps

It helps to be tall if you're a centre back. You have to have a tall player in central defence to head away high aerial balls. If Arsenal have two small-ish centre backs regularly in the back four they won't win a trophy, I'm sure about that.

Senderos is quality, you dont play for Milan unless you are the nuts. I would have him over Vidic and Ferdinand any day, lets hope he comes back........

Senderos played 10 games for Milan, 10 games wow! He must have taken Serie A by storm! And how many points behind Inter were they?

Actually Senderos played 14 games in Serie A and 5 UEFA cup games. And not to mention he's made 115 appearences for Arsenal. Also he was given the #6 by Tony Adams himself

Djourou is crap. Simply not good enough for Arsenal.

you think having ONE defender over 6ft is enough? Kolo's small, so is Gallas, so is Clichy, so is Gibbs, so is Sagna & Senderos is tall but pants and probably ain't coming back thank God. Djourou's class, I'll admit, but you need more than one tall bloke at the back.

Do you know anything about football, Lou? Djourou has represented Switzerland in Euro 08.
