Joe Kinnear has revealed Mike Ashley is still rooting for Newcastle United Football Club.

The much-maligned owner may not feel safe to watch his club due to a fierce backlash from fans, but that didn't stop him cheering on the Magpies in their 2-2 draw at Everton on Sunday.

"Mike was on the phone not long after the final whistle went saying he had been watching the game with his kids on the big screen at home," Kinnear told the official club website.

"He said he nearly jumped out of the window when Leighton Baines appeared from nowhere to kick that shot from Charles N'Zogbia off the goal-line because he thought it was going to be the winning goal.

"But he seemed happy enough at our performance and the eventual result."
