Sunderland try for £3million Rovers striker?
04:00 PM 26 June, 2009
Benni McCarthy is a target for Steve Bruce at Sunderland Football Club.

Although they have lost Roque Santa Cruz to Manchester City this summer, The Times claim Blackburn Rovers are also willing to offload the South African striker.

This could be of interest to the Black Cats, who are in the market for a couple of new forwards for next season and could see McCarthy, 31, as an ideal signing.

The former Porto star made a blistering start to life in England when he moved to Ewood Park three years ago, but he has failed to reproduce the form of his first season.

However, McCarthy did score ten Premier League goals last term to top the charts at Rovers, and Bruce may see a £3million buy as a risk well worth taking.

"It bores me to hear that every player in the bottom half of the premiership is linked with sunderland" -Get used to it. Sunderland are a bottom half club and could be linked to a lot worse than McCarthy...like Cisse or Chopra...ah, nevermind.

Lee is right. The scum media have little to fill their gutter columns so they need absolutely every scrap of rumour rubbish to con mugs into buying their papers. Once they could be prosecuted for such garbage lies. Now anything goes. By the way SAFC are also in the market for a new cute kitman, several chip van sellers and a new tea lady. They are willing to spend really big for the right crew.

Er, no. He struggled to get into the Rovers relegation-flirting side last year.
