£5m Sunderland target 'untouchable' say Rangers

Steven Davis may be interesting the Black Cats but he is one of a handful of Ibrox stars who the club are not prepared to offload.

Finances remain tight despite the dramatic SPL title win but manager Walter Smith would rather sell a host of other players than lose midfield dynamo Davis.

A club insider, quoted in the Evening Times, said: "Steven is one of just two or three players who the manager has insisted is not for sale.

"He is a key member of the first team and it would take a silly offer to make any deal possible. It would take more than double the £3million fee Rangers paid last summer.

"There are a number of teams down in England who are keen on him but, unless they are willing to pay big, big money for him then it just isn't going to materialise."

you all seem to forget the SPL is a pile of shite, how live games are there on sky sports? you get like 12 setanta games, sunderland are a team going places and we dont buy shitty portsmouth rejects like mendes or stupid inbreds like Amdy Faye. Well winning the spl and the scottish cup isn't exactly hard is it haha, I mean Farlkirk got to the final, what an epic - evenly matched game that was. And referring to the matter of euope, as i've said repeatedly Rangers only got into europe qualifying thru a utter appalling league of two teams. The only reason Rangers got to the final was not only did you's have an easy run but yas defended for like 87 mins then went hell for leather to score and win like 1-0, look at the sporting lisbon game, scraping a win. Btw we beat them 3-1 last season :) x "You only wished you were english". HAIL HAIL!

sunderland are wank, rangers are a far bigger club, you get far more money than u8s n we'd still beat u easily, if rangers had money we'd be one of the top teams in the world, considering we dont have any money and are still up there, last season we made it to the uefa cup final this season we won the league and the cup, so how can u say we r rubbish????? sunderland my arse

Why would we want crap spl players they are complete useless. I mean Rangers are no bigger club than Sunderland at all Winning an awful league gives them the chance to qualify for the champions league, big deal. Also the two "biggest teams" in scotland consist of "good" scottish players and a few "championship players", So if Sunderland are competiting and signing players from Spurs for example and not the best players in the league of lesser teams such as "hibernian and dundee" (which celtic and rangers do). It actually makes Sunderland a bigger club, a club who's moving forward and prepared to offer Peter Crouch 75,000 grand a week, only the measily 10,000 Pedro Mendes probably gets.

you don't know what you are on about, are you saying Sunderland are a bigger club because they have more money? If so then yes well done you are a bigger club, luckily for you you are one of the diddy teams in the premiership who get millions and are still rubbish. Rangers can only dream of getting the tv money you get and we'd still beat you. Money aside Glasgow Rangers are a far bigger football club than Sunderland.

Yes we have more money, but how can Rangers possibly be a bigger club than Sunderland can i just ask ? You have a team of utter rubish players and your only in the champions league through qualifying in a crap two horse league. If you are a bigger club then why do you seek championship players like kyle lafferty, bougherra and premiership rejects like pedro mendes. Surely if you were a big club then your turnover would allow you to sign big name players but then again winning the SPL would only give you about 2,000 haha. We would recieve a bigger income getting relegated than Rangers winning the SPL. Your that big of a club surpised you havent gone bust like Setanta without your tv money.

Rangers are a tiny club moneywise, yes. Yet we got to the UEFA cup final in 2008. And we see Man City crash out before the final and Spurs, Villa and Pompy all getting shagged in the early stages while picking up a cool 60m TV money. Shameful state of affairs in the Prem League. No teams out of the top 4 have any success in Europe. And for the EPL, that's absolutely embarassing considering teams like Spurs whack 15m+ on players. Also note the fact when I'm talking about Europe, I haven't needed to mention Sunderland yet. Hope you guys enjoy fighting for survival next season.
