Coventry release midfielder
04:00 PM 02 July, 2009
Coventry City midfielder Kevin Thornton has left the club by mutual consent.

The 22-year-old, who has made over fifty first-team appearances for the Sky Blues, was convicted by city magistrates last month of drink-driving, after being over twice the legal limit, as well as failing to stop at the scene of an accident and driving without a full licence and with no insurance.

He was banned from driving for 22 months, fined £2,750 and ordered to pay £260 in costs and compensation.

The club found out about the incident only after the court case.

A short statement on the club's official website read, "Kevin Thornton has left Coventry City by mutual consent.

Thornton, who is 23 later this month, will pursue his career elsewhere.

Neither Coventry City nor Kevin Thornton will be making any further comment on the matter."
