Stephen Ireland believes Gareth Barry and Roque Santa Cruz will both prove to be crucial signings for Manchester City Football Club.

England ace Barry has been brought in from Aston Villa for £12million, whilst Paraguayan striker Santa Cruz joins from Blackburn Rovers in a deal worth around £18million.

"Gareth Barry is a very shrewd and clever signing by the manager. He is a top-class all-round midfielder who will give us more balance," Ireland told the club's official website.

"You know exactly what you will get from him. The great thing about Gareth and Roque, who is another crucial addition, is that they are players who are in their prime.”
