West Brom complete Cox signing
04:00 PM 08 July, 2009
New West Brom manager Roberto Di Matteo has completed his first signing with Swindon striker Simon Cox moving to the Hawthorns in a £1.9 million deal.

Cox was the joint top scorer in all four English divisions with 29 league goals, netting 32 times in total for the League One outfit including three hat-tricks.

The 22-year-old has signed a two-year contract, plus a further two years' option in the club's favour, after passing a medical. Swindon will receive a guaranteed £1.5m from the deal with a further £400,000 due in performance-related add-ons.

The Reading-born striker joined his home town club at the age of nine and made his senior debut for them in the League Cup victory at Luton Town in September 2005.

Cox found first-team chances limited at the Madejski Stadium and spent time on loan at Brentford and Northampton. Following a successful loan spell at Swindon, Cox made a permanent move to the County Ground in January 2008.

DiMatteo told the club's official website, "Simon is an exciting, young talent with bags of ambition, hunger and determination."

"He has a very good goalscoring record and I think he will be a great asset for our team next season.

"I've seen him many times and he has the ability to do well in the Championship. He had a lot of interest from other clubs, including one or two Premier League clubs, and we are very happy that he has signed for us."

Meanwhile Sky Ports.com are reporting Baggies interest in 22-year old Coventry left-back Daniel Fox. The ex-Walsall defender impressed for the Sky Blues last season and with Paul Robinson possibly departing the Hawthorns, could attract DiMatteo to make a move.
