Neville backs Michael Owen’s Manchester United move
Gary Neville has backed Michael Owen to force his way back into the England squad by scoring goals for Manchester United Football Club this season.
The former Liverpool striker has caused the biggest surprise of the summer so far, by agreeing a free transfer deal at Old Trafford after seeing out his Newcastle United contract.
United legend Neville is now backing the 29-year-old to concentrate on winning a place in the Reds side, which could well lead to a call-up to Fabio Capello’s side.
“I don’t think Michael moved to United for England. He’s moved to improve Manchester United,” said the veteran defender. “But the opportunity is there for him.
“Anyone who plays for United over a season has a great chance of getting into an international team, no matter whether it be England or any other country.”
