Spurs in for Kyle as Blades look for replacement
12:00 PM 13 July, 2009
Tottenham have joined the race to sign Sheffield United's defender Kyle Naughton after they matched Everton's accepted bid.

Everton had secured a deal for Naughton after the clubs agreed a fee, and reports suggested Toffees officials expected him to head to Goodison Park on Monday for a medical.

It is thought that Aston Villa stillhold an interest for Naughton making it a possible three-way battle for the England U-21 international.

Sheffield United boss Kevin Blackwell told the Sheffield Star, "Sadly, that was his last game for the club. I don't want to lose my best players but the clubs have agreed on a fee."

"We're a good club and we can attract good talent. People want to come here."

"I know that because I had to recharge my phone twice in one afternoon when everyone realised what had happened. All the calls were people trying to recommend someone.

"What we've also got to do now is unearth the next Kyle Naughton."
