Liverpool Football Club's Fernando Torres is desperate to win the Ballon d'Or for 2008.

The Spanish international enjoyed a sensational debut season in England, and he now hopes to win the accolade and follow some of his heroes in the game.

"When I have watched the Ballon d'Or presentation I saw the likes of Zinedine Zidane, Ronaldinho and Kaka," Torres told L'Equipe. "I told myself that trophy was for players from another galaxy.

"Now I am among the candidates, and I cannot believe it.

"Winning the award would be like climbing to the top of Everest and touching the sky."
