Owen arrival stirs challenge from Berbatov
Dimitar Berbatov is eager to keep his place in the Manchester United side this season.
The Bulgarian was preferred over Carlos Tevez more often than not last term, and the Argentine has left Old Trafford for neighbours City in search of regular action.
Michael Owen has now been brought into Sir Alex Ferguson squad as a replacement, and he has scored two goals from as many pre-season friendlies in the tour of Asia.
Perhaps the England international poses more of a goal-scoring threat than Tevez, who notched just five times last season, and this could get the best out of Berbatov.
"I think I can do better [than I did last season]. I think I can do more. That’s why I’m happy to be here on the pre-season tour," the former Tottenham Hotspur star told MUTV.
"It’s always beneficial to start well and have a good pre-season and I feel I’m training well at the moment. I’m here to score goals and I hope to score more and more for United.”
