Manchester United legend expects more from Berbatov
09:30 AM 24 July, 2009
Manchester United legend Bryan Robson is expecting a big season from Dimitar Berbatov.

The Bulgarian international arrived at Old Trafford last summer when Sir Alex Ferguson finally landed him from Tottenham Hotspur, in a deal worth almost £31million.

Berbatov struggled to win over the United fans last term, but with Cristiano Ronaldo and Carlos Tevez leaving this summer, this is something Robson believes the striker must do.

"It's time for him to step forward and show what he can really do,” he said.

"Berbatov is quality and this season we'll see him come into his own. With Ronaldo and Tevez gone, United will be looking for others to lead the way.

“And I'm sure he can become the main man."

@ RoyB The only fans that would ever call for SAF's head are the glory hunters. The real fans know that Sir Alex built the second part of this house, the addition so to speak. Sir Matt the built the first part. Sir Alex is a genuis, the greatest manager of all time. He is the one that got us to 18 titiles. We are now tied with liverpool. I always think its funny when people question SAF. 3 Premier League titles in a row. 2 Champions league apps, 1 a win. And yet you would be willing to sack him after even 1 bad season. The is know doubt it is going to take some time for United to re-adjust after lossinf Ronlado. But that is always the case after great players leave. Cantona, Beckham, Bruce, van Nistelrooy, Keane, ect. But we always bounce back. Why? Because we have the greatest manager of all time. Never doubt Fergie. (although it does seem to motivate him when he is doubted)

Fergie will not go past the 30 million mark, no matter who it is. This contrasts massively with the likes of Real Madrid who, when they see a top player, are prepared to offer top money for him. I'm sure Fergie thinks NOBODY is worth over 30 million, hence he will not part with one cent. Call it wise, call it frugal, call it stupid.... but only time will tell this coming season. If United do not make it into the top 2 (let alone the top 3 or 4) then the fans will be calling for his head. He HAS to come at least runner-up. Anything else they will say it is because he didn't buy a top player. What happens if Rooney gets injured, and/or Owen can only play every second game. How can they win the EPL ????
