Tom Huddlestone can play a key role for Tottenham Hotspur, says Harry Redknapp.

Jonathan Woodgate and Michael Dawson will miss the start of the season through injury, whilst Ledley King has yet to kick a ball since the pre-season programme began.

Redknapp, though, feels Huddlestone is capable of deputising in the heart of the back four for Spurs, which underlines the importance of the 22-year-old to the White Hart Lane cause.

"Tom can play there," said Redknapp. "He played there in a Uefa Cup match for us this year where he was absolutely fantastic. He played there when he was at Derby County as well.

“To be honest he can play anywhere, he has so much ability. I am looking around as I am always looking to improve the squad because we want to push on this year.

“Tottenham is a club that should be pushing to get into Europe every year. I am looking to improve in all areas, I brought Peter Crouch in and I won't hesitate to add to the squad if players become available."
