Kanu poised to extend stay at Portsmouth
11:15 AM 01 August, 2009
Kanu is on the verge of signing a one-year deal with Portsmouth Football Club.

The Nigerian international’s deal at Fratton Park expired earlier this summer, but it is believed he made enough appearances to trigger a one-year extension.

Kanu has now joined the rest of the Pompey squad in Portugal for pre-season, and his agent has revealed the striker is close to agreeing a stay on the South Coast.

"Kanu is in Portugal with the rest of the team. He would not be out in Portugal if he was not close to having a new contract,” Samuel Okoronkwo told The News.

"His presence with the team is sufficient expression of how close we are. As far as my client is concerned though, his commitment to the club is total.

“Talks are progressing very well. The conditions are right and both sides are comfortable with Kanu remaining at Portsmouth for another season."
