Tottenham Hotspur to land £8million Bassong
Sebastien Bassong is on his way to Tottenham Hotspur Football Club.
Harry Redknapp has been seeking a new centre-half in recent weeks, with injury problems affecting Jonathan Woodgate, Michael Dawson and Ledley King ahead of the new season.
Bassong would have been happy to remain at Newcastle United had they not been relegated from the Premier League last term, but since their fate was sealed, he set his heart on a move to Spurs.
The Londoners have now had an offer of £8million accepted by the Magpies, and he has this afternoon passed a medical with the club ahead of sealing the transfer.
"Playing for Newcastle was a real honour in front of the supporters at St James' Park," Bassong told the Evening Chronicle. "It has been an unbelievable experience for me.
"But I have always said that I wanted to play in the Premier League and that wasn't possible with Newcastle. It was not good for my career to be at a Championship club.
“I want to play in future World Cups and African Cup of Nations competitions with Cameroon. That is made more difficult if you are not playing at the higher level."
