Liverpool boo-boy ready to fill Alonso void
Lucas Leiva is sure he can fill the gap caused by Xabi Alonso’s Liverpool departure.
The 22-year-old has so far failed to win over the Anfield faithful, but following Alonso’s £30million move to Real Madrid, the Brazilian is ready to prove his worth to the Merseyside club.
"I am always ready and now Xabi is gone I hope there will be more opportunities for me,” said Lucas. "I am just working hard in training to try to earn a position in the team.
"I have played a lot of minutes in pre-season and that has given me more confidence. I am feeling better and hopefully it will be a good season for me."
Lucas may well start the season for the Reds whilst Alberto Aquilani regains his fitness, but the £20million Italian international is certain to be given a first team shirt when available.
