Gareth Southgate is confident of keeping David Wheater at Middlesbrough Football Club.

Fans favourites Stewart Downing, Robert Huth and Tuncay Sanli have all been sold since Boro suffered relegation from the Premier League on the final day of last season.

The Riverside Stadium club are hoping no top-flight sides make a move for Wheater before the deadline, but Southgate has reassured them that the defender will not be sold.

"David is somebody we have just said is not for sale, and he has made it clear that he has no desire to move at the moment, so I don't foresee there being anything in that," he said.
