Wolverhampton Wanderers sign ‘Austrian Peter Crouch’
10:29 AM 01 September, 2009
Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club have signed Stefan Maierhofer.

The Premier League new-boys agreed an undisclosed fee with Rapid Vienna for the Austrian striker, who has penned a three-year deal with the Molineux outfit.

Maierhofer, who at 6ft 7.5in is even taller than Peter Crouch, has been a prolific scorer in the Austrian Bundesliga, although the 27-year-old is still waiting for his first international goal.

"We are delighted to bring Stefan in as our ninth new arrival this summer," said Wolves chief executive Jez Moxey. "He is a player who has been a regular goalscorer for Rapid Vienna in recent seasons.

“He helped the club qualify for the Europa League by contributing to their win against Aston Villa last week. Stefan had been targeted by Mick McCarthy to add competition in the striking department.”
