Is Eduardo’s two-match ban unfair or just?
Eduardo will miss Arsenal Football Club’s first two games in the UEFA Champions League.
The Croatian international won a penalty in the second leg of the qualifying win over Celtic at the Emirates Stadium, but television replays suggested he took a dive.
Uefa have now issued the striker with a two-match European suspension, meaning he will be absent for the matches against Standard Liege and Olympiakos.
Arsene Wenger is naturally disappointed at the treatment of Eduardo, and to be fair to the Gunners head coach, in this case there is a degree of sympathy for him.
Yes, his player took a dive, but is he the only one guilty of simulation? How many times do we see somebody take a tumble in the Premier League on a weekly basis?
Yes, the dive might have been in the Champions League, but there is also an argument that the only reason he has been singled out is because he plays for one of the high-profile clubs.
Had the dive been taken by, say, Apoel Nicosia player Kamil Kosowski (ever heard of him?), would he have even made the radar of Uefa...in all probability, no he wouldn’t.
So if Uefa want to suspend Eduardo for diving, then that is fine...so long as they examine every other Champions League match and dish out similar punishment for other offenders.
