Baines fights Saha & Arteta for Everton spot-kick duty
02:30 PM 02 September, 2009
Leighton Baines is eager to become the regular penalty taker at Everton Football Club.

The former Wigan Athletic defender struck the winning goal from the spot against his former employers on Sunday, to get the Toffees season up and running at the third attempt.

Baines now hopes David Moyes offers him the job on a permanent basis, although the player knows Louis Saha is also keen and Mikel Arteta, who is the usual taker, will soon be back from injury.

"I spoke to him (Saha) a little bit on Saturday and I think he was still quite keen to take them, which is fair enough,” he told Everton FC. "But luckily for me he wasn't on the field at the time!

"Hopefully I can take them now. Mikel Arteta seems to be the main man but I would like to take them. But when Mikel comes back I'm sure he will want to be back on them."
